Do you all like Star Trek? Oh boy I love Star Trek. I loved the message of a peaceful, post-commodity government that prioritized the growth and betterment of its diverse citizenry and peaceful cooperation rather than military power. They even explored space too!
Ya'll like X-Men? Oh boy, the X-Men are so cool! It's great to see such a diverse team of super mutants joining together to learn from each other, protect innocent civilians, and try to convince an uncaring government to treat them as equals under the law. Pretty neat honestly!
Is anyone a Harry Potter fan? Oh boy is Harry Potter neat. Remember that part where a ragtag group of wizards from all backgrounds fought against a faction of authoritarian magic fascists who had effectively taken over the Ministry of Magic? That was rad!
Any Batman fans? I do love me some Batman! That bat-obsessed dude would put on a mask and track down criminals. Whether they were super villains or corrupt police officials, they were all equally subject to justice in Batman's eyes. What a great premise!
Anyone played the Final Fantasy 7 remake? I really enjoyed it! It was neat re-live a classic story about an eco-resistance group trying to take on a overwhelmingly larger corporate military force with no other objective than saving the planet and sticking up for the oppressed.
Any Mass Effect fans? Whew, I LOVE Mass Effect! It's an epic game trilogy where you play your own Cmdr. Shepard, protecting the galaxy by recruiting an assorted cast of heroes and overcoming alien discrimination & mistrust to unite against an invading army of unfeeling machines.
We're rewatching Avatar: TLA again. Avatar is rad! Super fun story of a bunch of kids from various elemental 'tribes' that come together in an epic journey to try and fight off an oppressive nation of tyrannical fire benders who want to stamp out the magic of the other tribes.
You folks got any other sweet pop-culture characters or stories you absolutely love? There's loads of great fictional worlds out there.
My point: The pop-culture and mythology we all adore is fundamentally built around the hope of resistance to oppression & tyranny. There is a portion of our own HUMAN race that besieged on daily basis.
The heroes from our stories would believe that #BlackLivesMatter
