I was once told by a table full of white creators in LA that I was wrong to exclude racism from my IP fantasy world. They told me I HAD to have racism as a subject in my fantasy world or else I was alienating my audience..... These individuals claim to be "Woke Progressives"
Someone should really tell them they can't just go 'full woke'. It's just...TOO much woke! But seriously it's your own IP, why should you 'have' to do anything with it? There's plenty of fantasy/sci-fi that doesn't really deal with racism because it's not relevant to the story.
I think the problem stemmed from the term fantasy or dark fantasy. I don't think they really realized how broad these terms are. Animal Crossing is technically a "fantasy" world. Anthropomorphic characters living side by side with a human? Yeah it's a NON serious fantasy world.
