You know, I really don't like when artists mock people for asking what tools, brushes, etc they use. Sure, it doesn't give you skill, but some brushes can give a desired effect...some shortcuts in PS make life easier. What's the point in making fun? We were all newbies once. 
What I find interesting and a little heartening: almost every single artist I've heard griping about students/newbies asking about brushes/tools/etc will almost never complain to the one actually asking. They may joke privately, but they always respectfully answer the question.
