I tuned into GMB for the 1st time ever, hoping PM might have met his match. 20 mins and I had to switch off, feeling toxified. Ugh. He sets the agenda, changes the agenda, takes command. He has too much power. Good Bullying Britain. Never again.

Sorry Hun - yeah we can all squirrel and argument and win it!
-
Natasha, can you explain your view point to me? Because at the moment, your argument of removing girls choice in the name of feminism, is by far the worse argument it's ever been my misfortune to here.
-
I never mentioned feminism. Piers did. My arguments will be fully explained in my
@tes column this week. Stay tuned. -
So if I'm right, your argument is: - Uniforms need to be more strict and exclusive. - Girls shouldn't get a choice what they want wear in schools, despite the fact it will impact there quality of life. - you know more about what girls want to wear then the girls in question?
-
....You’re not right.
-
Ok what part was not right? Because you are trying to restrict what girls can wear by taking away their choice of wearing a skirt, therefore by definition you are trying to make uniforms more strict. So which part was wrong?

Would you ban uniforms altogether? That way kids have a full choice of what to wear .
-
Personally, if I was a headteacher, I’d definitely consider that.
-
Brings it’s own issues, believe me but Headteacher for a day? That could be interesting. Let me know
-
I would fail spectacularly I’m sure. But learn a lot in the process. Which is what education is ultimately all about.

But why would you support something that removes a choice? Why not give boys the choice to wear skirts instead? That would be much more inclusive. Piers was right, if the skirts are banned some girls who feel too self conscious just won’t go to school. I know I wouldn’t.
-
All uniform removes choice.
-
Daughter loathed unfashionable, uncomfortable polyester trousers, she only ever wore a skirt even in snow. I think she would have risked the HTs wrath & bought black jeans (as would many of the skirt contingent)

Absolutely. Some people are simply more comfortable in trousers. In fact in the summer shouldn’t secondary school children be allowed to wear shorts?
-
How does it help taking away the girls choice? Ultimately, the decision on whether they want to wear trousers or skirts is not up to her, teachers or parents it's up to the girls. What gives her the right to take away there choice?
-
Absolutely. Imagine the uproar if suddenly all women had to wear skirts in the office!
-
School uniform by its v nature takes away choice. Should we have uniforms at all? Maybe not... that’s a different issue. But for as long as there are uniforms surely shorts and trousers are more practical?
-
No, If they want to wear trousers they can wear them, if they want to wear skirts, let them wear them!
