Here is the antenna removed so you can more clearly see the design. I am going to steal this. (3/n)pic.twitter.com/0jzGJR171l

And I like this riser for the USB contacts that uses castellated solder points. I'm also stealing this. Normally people just make the whole PCB really thick. (5/n)pic.twitter.com/tzlTONbJmw
And that's it for now. I've only had this for 5min but couldn't resist posting. @0x6d696368 did the original teardown of this cable. I'm wanting to possibly repurpose some of the tech. (6/6)
@LucaBongiorni @mame82 @jermainlaforce @dmxinajeansuit I'm already seeing a few things for that project :)
Test one more thing pls. I m curious if nearby speakers interfere with the cable while the "cable" makes a transmission. You know, the annoying sound...
I haven't even powered it up yet. And don't yet have a SIM that does anything but GPRS, so can't rest much. But I'll confidently say just about all anti-recording techniques work on this cheap mic.
What do you mean with "anti-recording techniques"?
finding the recording device
Acoustic jammer. Ultrasonic jammer. Etc. they fill nearby microphones with noise.
Very interesting topic MG. There's an old Dept of Energy building here in Vegas that was surrounded but similar tech that supposedly did similar. (Circa a couple decades ago. Though they didn't explain it at the time)
I love the ultrasonic. It's so simple and it's just saturates mics with clipping. It's not cheap to filter that out, to my knowledge. But you also need decent speakers to produce that.
Ah I was wondering if you need to take into account harmonics of the mic membrane to tune your ultrasonic to... Maybe don't overengineer it and just put enough (ultrasonic) noise to it! ;)
Could you explain for those of us who *aren't* spy tech experts what this does?
It's a bug. The circuit inside the cable transmits the location and nearby sound over a cellular connection to whoever deployed it.
Thanks. Pretty amazing technology, and that people know how to look for things like this and thwart them.
They are marketed as anti-theft additions to your own car, but can clearly be used nefariously. There are many forms though. Cigarette lighter adapters, small battery powered boxes, hard wired, and small boards for adding to your own electronics.pic.twitter.com/wYUghmzV7B
The car USB adapter is the dirtiest one I have seen yet. Lol those have no indicator your ass is being tracked while its charging your phone too. I had a keyfob or two but there not working. And think I got those 6 years ago...
In terms of premade, i agree. I could definitely squeeze that 16x18mm "add your own device" board into some fun things. Would be even smaller if they used nano instead of micro SIM slot.
