1/ Time for another thread on QAnon social media metrics going to provide an update on Twitter, Facebook, Telegram, Parler and TikTok as we have crossed the halfway point of 2020

12/ Though there are more groups, followers and likes, QAnon content has seen a drop in interaction rate since Maypic.twitter.com/kHSxRJ8ZbK
Show this thread -
13/Overall, the interaction rate by followers has dropped consistently since January.pic.twitter.com/3bWEepUVtt
Show this thread -
14/ The most interesting point of this Facebook boom is that most of the new pages are international, providing QAnon content over a dozen languages.
Show this thread -
15/ Now before everyone jumps on the Facebook bashing and asking to ban QAnon like they did with Boogaloo pages it is important tor ealise that Facebook groups and pages are very different that the Boogaloo ones.
Show this thread -
16/ Though QAnon comes with a plethora of potential risk factors IRL, most of what is posted does not violate Facebooks current ToS, also the call for actual violence is not the same rates seen in the Boogaloo groups.
Show this thread -
17/ Their biggest violations at the moment would fall under Facebook's COVID policies and Facebook has been consistent in flagging it. I would note that QAnon appears to be limited in Facebook's search functionality and by recommendations, though it is not impossible to find
Show this thread -
18/ For both Twitter and Facebook, though QAnon is a potential risk factor, most of what they post does not violate ToS. Platforms are currently not equipped for dealing with a decentralized movement like QAnon that is not a clear extremist threat.

19/ Parler has been making the news recently with a few high profile individuals joining their platform. There has also been a small shift of QAnon accounts (mostly influencers) that have also created accounts on the platform. Here are some screen caps of QAnon hastagspic.twitter.com/3guQx897aG

20/ It is important to note that there is no organic trending on Parler, though there is an interesting pay to play feature where

gets your content more visibility. My inital guess is Parler is overinflating user counts and hashtag numbers in the PR campaign atm.pic.twitter.com/E1hBtFokP1

21/TikTok: TikTok recently banned the pizzagate hashtag (still in effect) though there are other QAnon hashtags present on the platform that range from 64M to a few hundred thousand likespic.twitter.com/ZaBqeD8lZv
Show this thread -
22/ Though those numbers may appear large, for content the top trending hashtags today on TikTok have between 3.3B to 500M likes. Though present in the larger scheme of things QAnon is a small but growing elements of the Platform.pic.twitter.com/Nu18ZtfR7S

23/ What is important to note with TikTok is that content comes and goes with trends, the risk is something from QAnon takes off (i.e. pizzagate). However, though there may be increased eyes on a QAnon topic for a period if this occurs in all honesty, it will fade away
Show this thread -
24/ Most of those who participated in the Pizzagate content on the platform, quickly moved on to other things . It is hard to remain a sticky topic on TikTok as it is very much influencer and community driven. Still it is a platform that should be watched.

25/ Telegram: since the start of 2020 QAnon channels have increased from 18 to 61. The largest of these has 115,000 members. All 61 of these groups produce 45,000 to 90,000 posts a day. Which totals on average more than the over 400 far-right channels I additionally monitorpic.twitter.com/ynJzmczD0F

26/ QAnon telegram is very different that QAnon on other platforms. First QAnon is more international on Telegram than other platforms (Though in light of the increase of international groups on Facebook, that might change).
Show this thread -
27/ Additionally, due to Telegram housing a large amount of far-right channels, and the interconnectedness of these networks QAnon content regularly overlaps with paramiliatry, ethnonationalist, racist, neo-nazi, anti-government and white power content.
Show this thread -
28/ On Telegram QAnon chats may present a recruitment pool for more extreme movements, as well as present a way of solidifying transnational communities of QAnon adherents.
Show this thread -
29/ Ultimately, QAnon is a community that is in full evolution and in branching out in divers directions. This is not surprising for a decentralized movement, though raises a few red flags for possible future national security concerns.
Show this thread -
30/ At the moment, QAnon is mostly polluting our digital ecosystem and the minds of the vulnerable. However as the socio-political environment will get worse the closer November 3 approaches and with no flattening of the curve in sight, the situation will not be getting better.
