it’s disheartening to learn that creators who chose not to “play the game” and beg for people to click the notification bell are ultimately being punished.

It provides more options! Someone might want to see all videos in their subs feed, but not get notified about every upload from every single subscription (especially if they have A LOT). The bell gives channel-level options: receive none, occasional, or all notifications.

On YT, a sub doesn't mean what it does for most other mediums, like a magazine. It's the "follow" option like on Twitter or Twitch. People only choose to follow so they get NOTIFIED. Why make this so complicated? Default: Sub = ALL Notifications. They can manually turn them off

that's what i said ! when you subbed and even activate the bell, that means you WANT the notifs, otherwise you won't do that...
