So, here's what happened. @Martina Navratilova, you know, minor tennis player who won 18 grand slams, 31 Grand Slam women's doubles titles, 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles, 9 Wimbledon Ladies Singles Championships, and 15 mixed double titles, the last at age 49 at the US Open.

All very minor stuff, but just saying. Makes a statement on Twitter saying that men can't just proclaim themselves a "female and then be able to compete against women." @Martina asked that there be standards. Sounds reasonable even for a mediocre tennis player, right?pic.twitter.com/ppOKwpRusO

Then the pile-on began with various men telling Martina that she doesn't know what she is saying. You know, minor athlete and all. Not a world famous tennis star like @ChloeL002.pic.twitter.com/qg7j2FdwB4

But wait--there's more. World famous @rachelvmckinnon comes on to skool @Martina telling her that "people's genitals are IRRELEVANT to sports performance" making the claim that trans identified males have no advantage over women as McKinnon's October victory clearly proved.pic.twitter.com/PPF6qvr2si

Focussing on genitals, according to McKinnon, is transphobic, but discussing testosterone isn't? Uh, OK. Anywhoo, McKinnon keeps attacking @martina and refuses to listen to what she is saying...pic.twitter.com/wcIZnerc8D

And over again... Despite his PhD in philosophy, McKinnon is unable to follow the thread of the discussion as @Martina refers McKinnon's condescending attitude & McKinnon instead misunderstands Martina's comment "about doing more for trans people than you can ever dream of" to bepic.twitter.com/9sIyLvmSNa

about himself (McKinnon) when in fact, Martina is referring to Renee Richards.pic.twitter.com/9OTKCPX3it

And then McKinnon hands @martina the "bazinga" when he tells her not to defer to a single trans person (well not Renee Richards at least) & McKinnon informs Martina of his pre-eminence as a sports person, something someone of @Martina's calibre should definitely know!pic.twitter.com/KV9zIWbmGT

And the ciliegina sulla torta: the hope that she regrets... In nomine Patris et fillii et Spiritus Sancti... I guess? I mean, it would seem that Martina must repent for her ways/thinking as a second-rate athlete to McKinnon's recent "win" which garnered much attention.pic.twitter.com/OaPPe21ofs

But here's the fundamental issue at heart here: transgender identity does not actually mean that anyone changes sex. You have heard that sex is not gender, =inversely gender is not sex. I can identify as I wish but the fundamental reality of the body is that sex is immutable.

And where more appropriate for a discussion of sex than the one arena where somatic (the body) is the foundation of the discipline. There are copious studies which show the many differences between the male and female body to the fact that the male bodies have increased numbers
