    Domain phish checks before issuing DV certs have been going on for at least 17 years. It's not new. All of the human-powered CAs do them. It's just that Let's Encrypt doesn't and ends up issuing phishy certs.

    I so disagree. It might be cheap short-term compensation, but extremely expensive and disruptive long term. If you give someone a title they are not qualified for, it makes it much, much, much harder to ultimately build the team you need when you scale to the next phase.

    At a startup, title is the cheapest form of compensation.
