Even the empty chair doesn't want to put its hand up this time around.

If Peter Costello is the answer....I can't think of a question stupid enough.

di Natale seems to be saying that when you can't get something up through Parliament, the government can just do it anyway. Not sure he's got a grasp on the way things work...

I don’t like swearing on twitter but in all honesty I LOST MY SHIT at the dishonourable, lying, deceptive conduct of Bernie Finn, Ondarchie and the rest of the pair-denying Caucus of Rats that calls itself when I was on tonight.

My question is to , will he condemn the actions of his 2 colleagues in the upper house for there unethical and unchristian like behaviour on Good Friday or does he stand with them in using religion as a political weapon?

If can't be trusted with a convention that 162 years' worth of Victorian MPs managed to uphold, then he can't be trusted with anything.

the whole leadership team who devised this should step down - and do so in disgrace. As a professor of politics who has studied institutions my whole adult life this is the worse violation - I defended the GG in 1975! Can't defend this...

I have been in two hung parliaments and another with a one seat majority but I have never seen or heard of the pairing convention being bastardised as it was in the Victorian parliament last night. And we whinge about the cricketers !!!

This is such a violation of our democracy if the Opposition leader can't see that he should resign. It's that simple. Completely unfit for public office.

Unprecedented in modern times. Victorian Government's fire bill voted down after Liberals paired on religious grounds, reappear for vote via

Things Victorian Liberals don’t get to posture about ever again 1. Standards 2. Traditions of the Parliament 3. Honesty and Trust 4. Cheating 5. Religious faith (not when they are prepared to use it to trick Labor MP’s into granting them pairs)

Before midnight Finn claimed to be ill working on Good Friday so Labor paired him, to allow him to observe his religious convictions. Instead he hid in the building for nearly 12 hours to reappear at final vote, reneging on the pair & abandoning all convention & decency

This was Liberal MP Craig Ondarchie last night. The last three sentences are extraordinary, given what he and Benrie Finn ended up doing.

The Firefighters’ Presumptive Rights Compensation and Fire Services Bill has been defeated by the lowest act I have ever seen in my 11 years in here - reneging on agreed pairs, trashing years of parliamentary conventions. A very, very dark day in state parliament

This is totally unprecedented. Two Liberal MP’s asked for(what turned out to be) fake pairs for “religious observance”. They hid in their offices till Labor MP’s who paired them left the building. They then snuck back in for the vote. Never ever happened before.

Malcolm, if your 'team' can't convince Senators in one on one negotiations that company tax cuts are a Good Thing, how are they going to convince the electorate?
