The majority of people do are not apposed to mentally ill people "roaming around" as you say.

No the majority are not so serious that they are a danger to society. That's totally false. We're taking 50% of the population.

Sometimes treatment helps. Sometimes it makes things worse. Shrinks don't have the magic bullet. Most mental ill people are not homeless.

It's not rare at all for meds to make things worse. For example, for most schizophrenics taking antipsychotics for more than 2 years (1/2)
