The GOP lowered the corporate income tax from 35% to 22% to get it more in line with taxes on investment income, which is the tax most rich people pay.

  3. Let CBO do one of their simulations to see how much that would have to be. You could also ask the CRS to try and figure it out.

  4. See where I'm going with this? Instead of raising the *income* tax rate to 70%, accomplishing nothing, what would make more sense is to raise the *investment* tax enough to offset the revenue loss from lowering the corporate income tax.

  5. Anyway, my point is, if you raise the income tax to 70% on people earning more than $10 million, you won't accomplish anything, because people that wealthy get all their income from investment assets and pay the investment income tax rate, 20%.

  6. Although why then did lowering the tax rate from 35% to 22% result in the US treasury losing $1.5 trillion?

  7. The economic justification is that 35% is the highest in the world and you're just encouraging corporations to hide their money abroad, and then the US treasury doesn't see any of it.

Mitch McConnell is unlikable. Lindsey Graham is shrill. John Cornyn is too ambitious. Rick Perry dances too much. Ted Cruz whines too much. Rand Paul has unrealistic ideas. Chuck Grassley lacks stamina. Paul Ryan should go home and take up knitting.

I took that video of AOC dancing and turned it into an ad for Medicare For All with a catchy theme song.
