Sen. Feinstein is criticizing Republicans for having the hearing before the ABA can review the court nominees. See:https://www.buzzfeed.com/zoetillman/democrats-accuse-republicans-of-trying-to-rush-through?utm_term=.igqaxVZrX5#.vcNvwlk2Lg …
Sen. Grassley says it's not "unprecedented" for the judiciary committee to hold a hearing before the ABA releases a rating
Important: Grassley says the committee hasn't moved on at least two nominees because Dems haven't returned the blue slips
Given previous statements from Grassley's office, this is likely a reference to Joan Larsen (Michigan) and Amy Coney Barrett (Indiana)
Michigan has two Dem senators, Indiana has one. So this would seem to signal that the blue slip process is giving Dems some leverage so far
The nominee to lead DOJ's Environment & Natural Resources Division, Jeffrey Bossert Clark, is also up before the Judiciary Comm. today
There was just a tense exchange as Feinstein asked what Clark thought about climate change/effect of greenhouse gases, and Clark demurred
Clark said those issues were for agency policymakers and scientists to speak to, and DOJ was there to defend decisions as needed
Feinstein said members were entitled to know his beliefs before casting a vote. Clark did not budge, said belief is "fidelity to the law"
Durbin asked if the two DC court nominees would commit to meeting with @EleanorNorton. Both said they would be happy to
Rep. Norton has expressed her frustration with the White House for not consulting with her about local court/law enforcement nominees
