    I know video is larger, Google has more jobs running, and they begin to transcode before they get the whole file, but it can't be so different from lossless audio that their uploader can be so garbage.

    For transcoding progress, if we don't see an update from the push notification system in a few seconds, we make a request to get the latest status. If needed, we update the UI with the newer progress. If it doesn't finish in a few minutes, the job is restarted.

    Yeah, sure, transcoding progress updates might stall, and your upload might stall, but checking both conditions is really easy to do, and you can give the user feedback. "It looks like your upload has stalled. Please check your Internet connection."

    I built an uploader with a progress meter and live transcoding progress feedback. In a single page application (in Ember). It doesn't have these issues. How is it that Google, with all their resources, fucks this up so badly?

    Yes. Hello. I would like to express a complaint in regards to the new YouTube uploadymathing. It has been over 30 minutes, and progress remains 24%. However! I happen to know that my upload has been steadily going for this entire duration! Consider me greatly incensed!
