    BREAKING: The federal labor board has just released an opinion saying Uber employees are contractors, not legal employees, i.e. they're not entitled to union membership, can't file complaints if Uber retaliates for organizing, etc.

    Very important acknowledgement from EU Competition office that their Google Shopping antitrust decision sets a precedent and framework for evaluating other verticals. This is something suggested several years ago as even more meaningful than the fine itself.

    Check latest answer on cases. Confirms the local search case ongoing. Also confirms «Google grants greater visibility to links to rivals than it proposed to do in the 2014 commitments»

    Also, breaking up radical concentrations of power is so important right now--across industries--because monopolies & wall street keep stopping good regulation. Pharma/insurance gets in the way of health care policy. Monsanto gets in the way of good ag laws. Etc.

    Matt is right about this weird straw man argument. Strong support of a policy--whether it is taxing wealth or breaking up big tech-- does not mean that you think that policy magically solves every problem related to industries that the policy touches.

    I'm hearing a lot of people saying things like 'just breaking up Facebook won't solve the blah blah blah.' Yes, we know. Read more than a headline. Break up and regulate. Let's have multiple car companies. Let's also have seatbelt mandates. Break up and regulate.
