For me personally, Firewatch and What Remains of Edith Finch.

Gone Home. One of my favorite games of all time. Firewatch is also pretty great. Technically a bit different genre but Obduction by
@cyanworlds hasn’t been played by nearly enough people. A great return to a Myst-style adventure. -
Gone Home and Firewatch are my top two picks as well. Both are excellent in very different ways, and both benefit from a second playthrough once you know the plot points and can pick up on minute details.

Outer Wilds, the spaceflight mechanics and simulated solar system are really well done and the story has an interesting way of revealing itself based on the order that you explore everything.

I think it's fair to call these games "narrative-driven adventure games" or "narrative exploration games." Death Stranding is a "walking simulator" since walking is a vital mechanic there. In Firewatch or Tacoma, walking is just a simple means to an end.

My favorite is Edith Finch, by the way – by far.
