I just spent the last 11 hours on a plane with a wonderful older French gentleman. He spoke very little English so we pantomimed to tell stories and shared food and told stories even though we knew the other couldn't understand. At the end of the flight... (1/3)

he gestures towards my empty ring finger and says, in broken English, "do not worry, mademoiselle, you will marry some day and be very happy." I'm not offended at all. That whole flight was sweet and wholesome and I'm very lucky to have spent it with him... (2/3)

My first judgment of him was unduly harsh. He was elderly, trembling and sleepy with a dour expression. I feared since he had the aisle seat I wouldn't be able to get up to use the restroom from Paris to LA. I was so wrong. It was a great reminder to not judge too quickly.

Had a similar experience from Rome > Geneva on a train through the alps. Older french lady, neither of us spoke the other's language, but I had a translation app. We took turns typing and passing it back and forth. Language barriers are hardly barriers :)
