Dr. recalls the legacy of her longtime colleague Dr. Paul Farmer, who died unexpectedly yesterday. Farmer was "incredibly clear in the idea of equity and justice for everyone," she says. "It's a very radical notion but he's broken it down for us play by play."

Still speechless. Paralyzed. And most of all sad. Nothing could have prepared me to suddenly lose my mentor of 12+ years. We love you Paul.

Rounding with Doktè Paul at early in medical school was a profound experience. I remember he went directly to the sickest patient, who was cachectic and dying. He sat with him for 30 minutes, asking not about his disease but about his family and his life.

Without Paul’s leadership as our first global health partner in building the Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais, BHI would not exist. Our work will continue to be driven by his legacy for breaking down barriers to provide dignified, accessible, & compassionate care for all.
