Guys, I had the most embarrassing fumble today,
A minister referred to me as the British speaker and naturally I corrected him saying I’m Somali.
After a 15min of fighting my ground and talking about Somalia, he asked me the country code & I fumbled.
I really am EuroTrash.

How living in the UK has suppressed and oppressed me, attending conferences in Africa always reminds me of what representation does for your psyche. And how even more assured and assertive I could’ve been. Definitely, want to raise my children here.

I just landed in Nigeria and the director of Youth & Sports wanted to meet me as I’m the first to arrive. She is a muslim woman and she’s refreshingly Assertive, like I’ve never seen this dynamic. A black sister in a jilbaab telling multiple black men what they need to be doing.
