NEW: Attorney Randy Mastro says @nycgov and @NYCMayor have agreed to move all homeless residents out of the Lucerne on 79th and the BelleClaire on Broadway. The issue has been a contentious one for residents of the UWS. Statement from Mastro below

Wow. I left NYC years ago, but what a sad and tragic fate to befall The Lucerne Hotel on the UWS, one of, it not THE, nicest establishments in the city. I stayed there maybe 100 nights teaching at Columbia J-School. Obviously, NYC is headed in a really bad direction. Really bad.

Not everyone on USW is happy about this. There is another group, of which I am a member, that strongly disagreed with the NIMBYism of our neighbors and worked to support the people in the hotels. cc:
