~20hrs in: - okay, this game is very good.
I liked the cockney British robot Xord, he cracked me up. I turned off voices in combat, hated hearing the repeated dialogue.
You are not going to insult lunch like that.
Nopons are like little furry JarJar Binks... total anime trope “the annoying character”pic.twitter.com/vmiNLqYGsE
The story is pretty bland “revenge and mystery!” For quite a while, but it DOES pick up nicely once you get to certain momentous location.
And IMO the early part of the game is actually the weakest, it just keeps getting better! Side quests are always mostly just exploration fodder, though
Nopon are pretty terrible overall but Riki is actually a very strong character. Side quests aren’t great, but it helps develop affinity between characters and of regions, and it’s mainly how you end up unlocking the secret skill trees for each character. Each has 2 more trees.
The sidequests don't get any better. There's a few interesting chain quests (choices affect outcome, depending on which quest you complete) but most are fetch quests or extermination. Nopon fill the cute annoying mascot trope, but one of them is pretty great later on.
you Zach
Hey Zach, glad to see you’re somewhat enjoying Xenoblade. Curious as to how you’re finding the combat system enjoyable? Maybe I missed something when I was playing the 3DS port. I always felt it to be a bad clone of the Seiken Densetsu party combat system.
In the sense that I found the allied AI in xeno to be not good at trying to chain up attacks, and I can’t recall if you can swap characters in fights...... or if that process was clunky. I always found fights to be hope for a break or set one up and then hope to follow up.
