@imranzomg has had some incredible takes on this game (including what is touched on in this article) I highly recommend taking a listen to some of the shows he has been on about it.

it is a good piece, & while I'm torn on how I feel about the ending and the direction chosen there and for the future, I disagree with a core pillar of this argument being "you can't make FFVII in 2020" - you absolutely can, and the proof is the game itself up to chapter 16 or so

I was in heaven reliving my favorite story beats via beautiful modern aesthetics and VO and with the new, mostly-great battle system. And my wife, who never played the first, was loving experiencing those beats for the first time and was fully invested until the end.

i bristled at the headline but loved the piece itself. really excited to see this stuff play out

Between FF7 and Rebuild of Eva I'm really loving the notion of remakes in dialogue with themselves

I’ll save it for future reading. I have a lot I want to talk about with this game! I haven’t enjoyed discussing a game this much since the release of Bioshock Infinite.

I think I am in the minority here but I was not super excited to jump into this, thinking it was just a remake of the first act of a game/story I Iove. After spoiling it for myself, now I am super excited to play and see what comes.

nah, that was me too. i wasn’t planning on playing it, but then after reading a bunch of reviews i decided i had to give it a shot.
