weight-lifting pals: i think i have to give up on deadlifts? can’t get past a certain weight (this time it was 270lbs) without seriously hurting my back. i go slow, i concentrate on having as perfect form as possible, and i still end up walking like an old man for a week. why?

Get someone who knows what they’re doing (a trainer) to help you out in person. Or, stop doing them. Pick another excercise or set of exercises that work the same muscles. If you’re hurting yourself doing any excercise, stop.

Don’t worry about the numbers. You push yourself too hard (or wrong) you’re going to get hurt or quit (because you’re injured or you hate it). Get in there, put in the work that feels right, and be consistent.
