Deadlifts are one of the worst lifts for your back, even when done correctly. just puts a TON of pressure on your spine
-
(spoken from experience bc i have the worlds worst back from football)

perhaps focus on some of the supporting muscles. Hams, core, etc. Could try a different approach too. Smith machine or a different style.

Contrary to popular belief, deadlifts are great for your back, if done properly. Try changing up your program and/or getting a belt.

Try a) getting a trainer to go over your form; b) using a belt; and c) tried giving them with a hex bar. that third option pulls the center of gravity closer to your own actual center of gravity, which takes a lot of stress off of your back
-
*try doing them

You could also try changing up your stance ie conventional to sumo.
