It’s an admittedly small sample size, but all of the actual prosecutors that I’ve talked to say that Kamala Harris was a progressive prosecutor. It’s the folks who aren’t prosecutors who insist she wasn’t.

Progressive prosecutors - like
@DA_LarryKrasner,@chesaboudin, and Satana Deberry - didn’t exist during Harris’s tenure as a DA, and in defending the death penalty, she failed the most basic litmus test of “progressive prosecution.” I truly hope she’ll embrace a new direction.1 reply 1 retweet 9 likes -

She refused to impose it as a DA when a cop was mudered. Seems to be pretty principled to me.

That’s not really how being a lawyer works. She had a duty to defend the law as long as a colorable argument could be made by her office even if she did not personally agree.

But then wouldn't she have had the same duty for prop 8? I think--as the elected head of the agency--she had a lot more discretion than you're giving her credit for.
