#Arctic sea ice still has not reached its annual maximum extent. Cold weather across the area is allowing for a late season expansion. [Graphics: http://sites.uci.edu/zlabe/arctic-sea-ice-extentconcentration/ …]pic.twitter.com/ZshEXCQO0Z

Temps across the arctic now almost at the 1958-2002 mean. http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/meant80n.uk.php …

Yep - a pretty tough week for polar ice alarmists. Antarctica is refreezing like a bitch, and the arctic keeps adding 25,000 km^2 every day clear into mid-March. Makes you want to switch to coral bleaching or something...

Excellent - I like the inclusion of decadal mean lines, makes the decline very clear (to anyone who can read a chart, so as responses show, not everyone)

Is this kind of late season oscillation common?

Not uncommon - wintertime extent is very dependent on weather conditions. Therefore, it is not surprising to see large responses coinciding with colder weather (especially when sea ice is low to begin with). This is also interesting...https://twitter.com/ZLabe/status/970687826323849216 …

While the overall freeze season is shortening, there has actually been a trend towards a later maximum sea ice extent (no change to maximum sea ice area). This study hypothesizes it may be related to a change in wind circulation: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2017JC012768/full …
