Actually listen to the trans people who are being lied about by their parents - many of whom are already adults, with parents who resent being unable to control and closet them any longer - and the whole "rapid onset" farce just disintegrates.

These are people who treat their kids like shit and then act like the mere fact of being a parent automatically makes them some kind of expert in this area. This is trash.

Rapid Onset Transphobia is a real thing though. Everyone flipping out about the UK's GRA reform proposals claiming it will allow trans people to do what they can legally do because of the Equality Act 2010 has it. If you think trans people are a new thing, you have it

"Trans people have existed peacefully since long before I was born, but I've just learned about them and now I want to express concerns" - Rapid Onset Transphobia sufferer

Rapid Onset Transphobia or
#ROT. Much more accurate description of the phenomenon than “peak trans”.

When I was 18, I came out as trans and my parents assumed it was a sudden thing and that I was recruited or convinced by a trans woman I knew. My mother later admitted she was aware since I was three or four.
-
The first half of this is completely the same as my story. Part of how I convinced her was showing her old journal entries. Like we don't learn to keep this shit secret as early as possible.
-
And it isn't as if most kids would know to not tell anyone unless they were certain, because even children know that this particular toothpaste doesn't go back in the tube.
-
I think what happened to me was it did come out and I got punishment and attempted brainwashing about it, because I went from being open about it to never ever telling anyone again and even when I finally met another trans woman it took me months to bring it up.
-
By assumed do you mean told you as much? I'm very sorry to hear it!
-
Thinking about it, a big deal for some of the people I've had to talk to officially about things (therapist, clinicians at the gender clinic, GP) was a timeline for how long I'd been taking small steps to see how things felt.
-
Yes, they told me as much.

Just waiting for some ahole to tell me that my dysphoria later in life is magically rapid onset due to the internet and not due to years of self loathing and fear.
-
Being that I delayed as long as I did
-
Yeah I get that. Started transition at 35.

Yeah, talking to a kid who's five and been talking about being in the wrong body for a year will have been experiencing dysphoria for at least a fifth of their life. Kinda makes it look different from how your average transphobe frames it. Perspective matters.

To everyone who doesn't want you to transition and/or can't accept that it's real and persistent, "rapid onset" is the only kind they can imagine. sigh.

TBH, this "rapid onset" bullshit sounds like "this suddenly came to my attention, so it must not have existed before." Like the parents are fucking infants who don't understand object permanence: it exists whether or not you see it at the time.
