Simple rule: post American election bullshit in my feed you get muted. Someday I *may* get around to unmuting people who did it. *MAY*. Post the more hateful elements of it, or the paranoid conspiracy theories, or any other such toxic American filth and you're blocked. For good.

It turns out that other people care a great deal what you think, as long as they can punish you for it.

So back when the country had far tighter control over communications channels, it couldn't keep news of an infection that at its peak infected 8000 people worldwide. Yet now, when there's ZERO hope for hit controlling the narrative fuckwits of all stripes think they're doing it.

A month after a disease which, at its peak, infected 8000 people (at that point in its life cycle it was maybe 1000-2000 people) the entire country was getting warnings via family, friends, students (my source), etc. about this unusual disease and how to fight it.

In the end, WORLDWIDE the number of people infected with SARS was ~8000 total. ~800 people died. Why do I bring all this up? Because I was in China in 2003 when SARS was a thing. The outbreak started in November 2002. I was starting to get warnings about it in December.

In 2003, the only two technologies readily available to spread information broadly were SMS and telephone calls. It should be noted that both SMS and telephone calls were tightly in the fist of government censors, seeing as the service provider was the Chinese government.

In 2002 there was an outbreak of an "atypical pneumonia". (Literal translation of 非典, the Chinese name for SARS.) The Chinese government of the time did what the then-Chinese government did: tried to cover it up.

How fucking stupid can people be? This (mostly) isn't a rhetorical question. Let's go over a bit of history quickly, shall we?

If you're panicking over 2019-nCoV and blase about the flu, you really, really, really need to ask yourself who's been inculcating panic into you. And why.

Current worldwide deaths for 2019-nCoV is a stunning 300 people. Current US deaths for this season's flu is a humdrum 20,000. (Sources: and )

Current worldwide infection rate for 2019-nCoV (Wuhan Plague) is a shocking 15,000 people. Current US infection rate for this season's flu is a mere 25,000,000 people. (That's just the USA, not the world, note.)

Nobody appears to be freaking out at all over the far more virulent, far more damaging, and far more deadly seasonal flu.

So, which of these two diseases—the one that's KILLED 8000 (with numbers expected to go up) in just the USA, or the one that's infected 9000 WORLDWIDE (albeit mostly in China)—are people freaking out over? I'll give you a hint: it's the stupid choice.

140,000 people in the USA are hospitalized with complications from this disease this season, and that number is expected to rise sharply. As a safety precaution, every known case of the coronavirus is hospitalized whether or not there is a complication, so let's call it 9000.

The death toll from this deadly disease in just the USA is ~8000 this season alone. (It's a recurring deadly disease, see.) This compares to the Wuhan Plague's worldwide death toll of ~200.

I know this is fruitless because Twits gotta Twitter ... but. There is a deadly disease spreading through the USA right now. It has infected 15,000,000 people (to the Wuhan plague's WORLDWIDE score of ~9000).
