I have a new post up: "Be Careful Using Historical Warming to Infer Climate Sensitivity" Part of trying to understand why emergent constraints based on historical warming suggest low climate sensitivity, and constraints based on low clouds suggest high CS

Today my son was cornered at school by kids who wanted to “test” him for just because he is half-Chinese. They chased him. Scared him. And made him cry. I was the same age when I was bullied for being Pakistani. It’s 2020. I thought things had changed by now... 💔

The *easiest* way to learn Deep Learning is to build it from scratch! IMO, the same is true when learning a Deep Learning framework. In I show how to build a -like framework Here's the step-by-step code!!

2019 was the second hottest year on record, continuing a decades-long trend of warming. The last five years have been the five warmest since modern recordkeeping became possible 140 years ago.

The ocean is the best place to measure global warming, because this is where more than 90% of the extra heat has gone. “Using the oceans, we see a continued, uninterrupted and accelerating warming rate of planet Earth. This is dire news.”

Today we kick off a new January-term workshop titled "Practical Computing Tutorials for Earth Scientists". Many earth science curriculums cover the math of numerical methods and data analysis, but the practical aspects of scientific computing are left to the reader. 1/

    とてもカッコよくできている解説。昨年nature geoscienceに発表されて論議を巻き起こしているタピオ シュナイダーの温暖化で熱帯の層積雲が消滅する研究にも触れている。

I have a new paper! We show there is a non-stationary teleconnection between Arctic sea ice in September and subequatorial Pacific Ocean conditions in the summer.

More discussion about CMIP6 sensitivities in new preprint by and colleagues. Key result is that trends over the last 40 years correlate strongly to TCR & so might be usable as a constraint.
