    You'd think this would persuade Labour of the necessity for electoral reform. And yet, Labour still refuses to commit to equal votes for all. The Lib Dems are ardently in favour, and will keep calling for fair votes and political reform.

    A bit of rather belated analysis of the vote: when you plot the size of Conservative and Labour majorities (in % terms), it is striking how inefficient the Labour vote has become since 2005.

    There are, of course, lessons to be learnt from the general election. But Thursday's result showed how crooked our electoral system is. It is patently unfair that 3.7 million people are represented by only 11 MPs. We need fairer votes now.

    "3.7 million people voted for us last Thursday. Under a proportional voting system we would now easily be the 3rd largest party in this house, with 70 MPs." MPs who jeer at remarks like this are really jeering at the voters silenced by our broken electoral system.

    Neither the Tories nor Labour care about standing up for our Union. Labour would have a second independence referendum. The Tories want to put a border down the Irish Sea. The Lib Dems are proudly pro-unions: we believe in a united UK at the heart of the EU.
