2 reasons to band up: 1. Rational strategy in a power game 2. Behavioral - dogs form packs, cats don't I wonder which it is in humans.
We do band up - living close doesn't necessarily amount to it, but we do. I only wondered why, is it logical or instinctive?

I would guess that it's both. Easier to thrive in groups, so over time we developed instincts that helps us live in groups.

Wars & epidemics are also easier in groups. I'd guess many points on the group/solitary scale are viable.
