Malice is stupidity, in my book. Not knowing how to get what we need and using violence to try to get it is about as dumb as it gets, if the goal is to get what we need in the long run. You know, burning bridges and such.
If you attribute something to stupidity rather than malice, expect malice to show up in order to cover up for the stupidity (which, by itself, invalidates neither your diagnosis nor the prescribed treatment - it still matters if stupidity or malice were the root cause!)

I disagree. Malice isn't stupidity. But stupidity (or really "being wrong") is a necessary component of evil. Much evil isn't malice at all. The worst kind isn't. Mao is a great example.
