Thats not quite true. Evolutionary pressure usually leads to some redundancy to cope with change. The funnelling you're talking about can only occur in very stable environments. Of course, business is very different.
Evolutionary pressure inevitably leads to extreme fragility. Competition demands maximal efficiency in adapting to the current environment, precluding any investment in preparedness to unexpected changes in the environment.
