The embankment below the road has moved as much as 15 feet downslope and has significant water flow through it. It is not safe to open the road even to limited traffic, and doing so would likely lead to additional road failure. 4/4

Visitors entering Yosemite via Hwy 120 from the west can reach Hodgdon Mdw and Hetch Hetchy, but not other areas of the park (including Yosemite Valley). From Yosemite Valley, visitors can drive up the Big Oak Flat Rd to reach the Tuolumne & Merced Groves of Giant Sequoias. 2/4

Big Oak Flat Road (continuation of Hwy 120 west into Yosemite) is closed from just inside the park boundary to Merced Grove. The road will be closed at least until mid-June and possibly into July. We are working with the Federal Highway Administration to start repairs ASAP. 1/4

The river did not rise as much as forecast, so Yosemite Valley will be open Sunday from 7 am to 8 pm for day-use only with very limited services. The only concession services available in Yosemite Valley will be the Village Store, Village Grill, and Degnan’s Kitchen. (1/2)

As announced yesterday, much of Yosemite Valley will close starting Friday, April 28, at 10 pm, due to a forecast of flooding. Western Yosemite Valley will remain open but could close if traffic congestion or parking issues become unmanageable. (1/3)

There will be no visitor access (including pedestrian access) east of that road. Parking in western Yosemite Valley and throughout the park will be extremely limited. Do not park off road. No services will be available in western Yosemite Valley. (4/4)

During this closure, Wawona, Mariposa Grove (via hike only), Crane Flat area, Hetch Hetchy, and western Yosemite Valley will be open. In Yosemite Valley, the closure will be at El Capitan crossover (the road that crosses the Merced River just east of El Capitan). (3/4)

Both roads were damaged in recent storms and have one-lane sections controlled by traffic lights. Watch for damaged road shoulders and for heavy equipment on the roads. Badger Pass Rd is closed until further notice. Call 209/372-0200 (then 1, 1) to check road conditions. 2/5

Winter weather is again in the forecast next week. However, conditions permitting, Yosemite Valley will open 24 hours per day starting Monday, March 20, with limited overnight lodging. Campgrounds are still buried in snow and will not open immediately. 6/11

The only access to Yosemite Valley will be via Highway 140 and El Portal Road, with a short detour in El Portal. Hetch Hetchy will reopen from 8 am to 5 pm daily but will only be accessible via Highway 120 west of Yosemite and Evergreen Road. 2/11

Yosemite will remain closed through Thursday, March 16—possibly longer. A partial reopening on March 17 is a best-case scenario. Another storm system is forecast starting today, with additional storms forecast next week. The park will provide an update late next week.

Yosemite has experienced significant snowfall in all areas of the park, with snow up to 15 feet deep in some areas and the park’s closure on Feb. 25. Park crews are working to restore critical services so visitors can safely return. There is no estimated date for reopening.
