"HS2 say they are only taking a fragment of ancient woodland. If I went into the National Gallery & cut off the corner of every painting, I would be accused of gross cultural vandalism.” Important piece on nature cost of HS2

We're celebrating the Willow Tit, the UK's most threatened resident bird and a species. We're working with to help the future of this incredible bird: At this time of year, you can hear them calling and if lucky - spot one!

Best way to distinguish Willow & Marsh is still the calls - Marsh have a high pitched sneeze-like "pitch-ou" whereas the Willow has a raspy "zee-zurzur-zur".

It's ! Our wetlands link land & sea, are home to wildlife, store carbon & hold floodwater. They're extraordinary! Yorkshire's wetlands come alive in winter - 40000 birds visit the Lower Derwent Valley & Wheldrake Ings. 📸Lucy Murgatroyd

"I'm a big vista sort of person, I'm inspired by the view from Sutton Bank or the moment having left the Wolds when the Vale of York opens out. These views inspire me to try to understand the huge ecological system we live in."

Great to see the bittern on but it's a lone bird, so that behaviour isn't courtship or territoriality. More likely it's aggression to other birds flying over.

An adult wren weighs the same as a £1 coin, but for its weight, it can sing at ten times the power of a crowing cockerel! That's quite a voice... Thank you to Kevin Agar on Flickr for sharing your photo!

Fantastic aspiration for the new decade to restore England's upland wilderness. Blanket bogs are England's 'rainforest', storing carbon, reducing flood risk and supporting wonderful biodiversity
