Gamemaker's been a really good first program for me. The UI is really nice and I don't get lost. My only issue is the lack of in-depth tutorials on things like multiplayer support, data structures and shaders. But overall Ive had a really good time making my first game

I find it excellent for its fine control without being too complex to grasp at a glance, but its weakest offering is easily GUI, building GUI from scratch is NOT fun.
