I'm a little torn on this -- one hand, having strings no longer default to zero is FANTASTIC news, and will save a lot of people many strange bugs. On the other hand, I very strongly feel that "2" + 1 should be 21, not 3 (cont)

I feel like the times you would benefit from this are extraordinarily limited, and it wouldn't be what you expect -- in that scenario, you *should* cast it manually to a real first, since you want to actually add numbers. "2" + 1 == 21 is much more expected and standard, imo!
