The core of our method is a new anisotropic Stokes model with a unified representation of solid, fluid and solid-fluid interface. The density-based topology optimization method allows new topologies automatically evolve during optimization

The paper presents a method to design fluidic devices in Stokes flow. These type of devices are essential in engineering applications from jet engines 🚀, hydraulic actuators 🧴, to heart valves 🫀

Advice to a student who was worried about bombing the computer graphics midterm, and wanted to know why they did great at the coding exercises but struggled with the exam. To paraphrase my PhD advisor: mathematics is like weightlifting for the mind. 🏋️‍♀️🏋️‍♂️

Often students become less communicative when they struggle to get a project idea working. However, reaching out to advisors is particularly critical in these situations in order to find solutions. That's much more important than giving updates when everything is great and fine.

Just had a conversation with an early PhD student thinking about whether they should leave grad school. It made me think about how it must be hard for junior people in general (in academia + industry) to find comfort in work right now. Here's a thread of what I told this person.

Hao Huang@Emory: Ex.1: ∃edge-signing of n-cube with 2^{n-1} eigs each of +/-sqrt(n) Interlacing=>Any induced subgraph with >2^{n-1} vtcs has max eig >= sqrt(n) Ex.2: In subgraph, max eig <= max valency, even with signs Hence [GL92] the Sensitivity Conj, s(f) >= sqrt(deg(f))
