Here's C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) fresh off from our @NASAHubble obs! Not as many fragments as one hoped for but still look quite impressive. Impressive stuff!! So what's the approx separation between these fragments in physical (km) distance? Looking forward to imaging this debris trail with PSP/WISPR later next month!

Comet is 1 au from us now, so that 3'' scale bar translates to a projected 2200 km. Of course, they're (probably) not all in a plane (and certainly not in the parallel to screen plane if they are), so you also have to guess at which fragments are in front/behind.

What date and time? (European observers reporting that the condensations were largely missing last night after being rather prominent the nights before; could just be a seeing effect ... or the end of the comet for good.)
