Here's comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann (center) on Feb 2. 29P just had a 4-mag outburst a few hours earlier, its largest since 2015. And of course, whenever you are taking an image a satellite will pass over your target so you have to take another one...

MPML - Sam Deen - {MPML} P10WTyQ followup needed (asteroid/comet with q < 0.1 AU!) P10WTyQ is currently on the NEOCP with an observation arc of 20 hours that conform to an orbit with a perihelion distance of <0.11 AU (95% <0.085 AU) and an inclination of 9-19 degrees.

...and now your 22 mag target is sitting next to this big, bright star, all you can do is to do something else until it moves away from the star. Reminds me the buffaloes that cross the highways at .

Belated Happy Lunar New Year from Telescope to those who celebrate! This year is the Year of Rat, so we are going to chase things with long tails tonight.

In half a year's time! (also: can we have a new name please? Huoxing/Mars-1 is a pretty unexciting name)

This is SO COOL: Astronomers have found an asteroid that is the first of its kind. It orbits closer to the Sun than Venus does!

Now there's a possible new comet at 14th mag on 's Confirmation Page, reported by an observer at Tokushima, Japan. Object is only 33 degrees from the Sun (!)

Newly-discovered asteroid 2020AV2 is the first known Vatira asteroid. Its orbit is completely interior to Venus' orbit. Here is an n-body simulation of this asteroid. It will run in your browser.

I'll call it "snow curtain" for now, but I think this phenomenon has a name...?

A possible new NEO definition as we are finding more and more NSOs (Near-Sun Objects)...

Having trouble opening the data from 's Terrain Camera (TCAM)... these files have dimensions of 1728x2352x3. No luck with either imagej or PDS4 viewer. Any pointers?

Looks like might have found something unusual: a large NEO, temporarily named ZTF09k5 and still on 's confirmation page, might be the first identified member of the Vatiras -- a hypothesized population with orbit entirely enclosed by Venus orbit.

Thanks Doug! In case anyone needs this: the data type is 16 bit unsigned and you need to have "little endian byte order" checked.
