I dont understand what your point is. Are you saying we should not alter the Quran in any way, but that we should instead convince clerics to just ignore parts of it or interpret it in a more benign way?
Im a realist too. So let's be real: you reformers do a lot of talking but I have seen no action. Now that there is an actual tangible thing you can get behind, you're not interested. I think it's more realistic to change the minds of avg Muslims vs changing the minds of clerics.

The only solution is avoidance of Islam. Reform is a non-starter & Majority of Muslims won’t apostatize. Protect your western/secular societies from Islam. Immigration & fertility rates will overtake your society. We have all the watches but they have all the time in the world.

On top of that, Muslims are not even interested in the "reformers". They hate them just as much as they hate us apostates and critics. I don't see how any progress is possible in that way.

Personally I think the overall chances of actually reforming Islam is slim. The biggest changes will be come from Muslims in the West, but even then it'll come in the form of simple belief differences between East and West.

We should look at how mankind dealt with another religion that was not exactly fitting in with the fabric of society which was Christianity which was forced into a reformation against its will. It was change or perish. Thus ended horrible aspects like the inquisition.
