Also, dont forget that 90% of Muslims (Sunnis) couldnt care less what a cleric says. The only person who's opinion they respect died 1400 yrs ago. They go straight to the word of Allah.

I dont understand what your point is. Are you saying we should not alter the Quran in any way, but that we should instead convince clerics to just ignore parts of it or interpret it in a more benign way?
