Not to mention that decline in conventional religiosity hasn't reduced religious thinking per se. How many Western atheists gush over Buddhism, Aboriginal Dreamtime myths, political religions like Socialism and so on. Humans crave overarching narratives.
Of course religions have caused lots of bad things, but let’s not pretend they didn’t serve humanity in many ways. They are a significant part of our story- of the growth/progress of humanity. I think they did much more harm than good and did more to delay our advancement than anything else. we would be in a much better place by now if we didn't have a proclivity to create gods and these barbaric doctrines never existed.

There's this sense that we got our basic sense of morality from Judeo-Christian teachings and I think it's actually the opposite, we had to build a human moral sense DESPITE religious teachings.

Are you kidding!? They've caused nothing but division, misery & death from what I can see. They have never achieved anything good that non-religious people & institutions haven't also achieved and most of their claimed charity has been a sham & a scam anyway.
