"Oppressive theocracies regulate personal behavior too" is a pretty poor argument in defense of secularist laws that ban public observance of some religious norms (e.g. in France). The point is that the free world is supposed to be better, no? https://twitter.com/ConfessionsExMu/status/987744847078420485 …

I'm not sure, @CathyYoung63 clearly said Free World values are better than theocratic values. Qatar stands to learn from our values, not the other way around. At least, that's what I think Cathy is saying.

I agree with you in that it may be antithetical to secular values in general. But in dealing with the particular kind of cultural shift in the west, these tough measures may be justifiable in order to prevent further undesirable shift.

That's a perfectly good argument! "Look at Saudi Arabia" is not.

You’ve now twice put things in quotation marks that I never said. That’s very dishonest and puts you in a bad light. What I said was, when you choose to live somewhere, you respect the law of the land. For some reason, you chose to lie as opposed to just respectfully disagreeing.

Oh come on. Using quotation marks to paraphrase/summarize someone's point is now "lying"? And that's a cop-out. The question isn't whether people should respect the law, it's what the law should be in free societies.

I see 2 separate valid points made by the two of you. But I'm interested to see how the 2 of you will work this out. :)

That’s the issue right there. She’s made up entirely different points that I never asserted and is arguing against her own imagination. It’s typical twitter nonsense 101. The choices are she’s dishonest or lacks basic reading comprehension skills. Either way...pic.twitter.com/KPRt0tEos6

You post tweet after tweet offering examples of oppressive theocracies regulating personal behavior as an argument that the French policy isn't unjust. But yeah, "oppressive theocracies do it too" is a totally unfair way to summarize your argument. Whatever.
