I think the mechanism is secularism. As long as schools, governments etc are all preaching Islam from birth to country-this will be the inevitable result. If ppl are given the choice to live freely, they wont choose--or very few will choose-- literalist Islam.
Except for Egypt :) But ya, generally this is the case. But the ppl who say this are usually looking to make Muslims innocent and to blame it all on the Americans for intervening. That's the irony.
