I am in a similar situation and I am curious.. did you manage to preserve relations with your family? Despite what mine thinks, it is not easy for me that I might one day have to be cut off from all of them just because I dared question their beliefs.

Be proud that you dared question their beliefs. I have used this photo so many times. It's so true. Not as radical sounding, but my Catholic mother in the 50s/60s had to wear a veil to church..or else verbally & brow beaten by priest.
