Ive never heard the word Ajam referring to Persians, or at all. On the contrary, Arabs revere and identify w a lot of Persian stories/poetry and they claim it as their own-as it’s Islamic. Also, too bad they werent successful, but hopefully theyll cleanse their govt of Islam soon

I’ve never heard the word either but I did hear two stories when studying Comparative Religions one where Mohamed was conflicted with referring to them as people of the book because how they separated good and evil, the other when Islamic invaders declared that religion invalid

Unless we are looking at it from an Egyptian point of view, because they did refer to them as Faresien which meant knights or horse rider. Arabs when they began to move forward to other lands, they went with the mentality of no one was above them even if you had a 4,000yr history

Ajnab means foreigner not retarded...and as far as I know, Ajam isn’t even an Arabic word. Perhaps there was a miscommunication. It would make sense for Arabs to call Persians Ajnab as they’re nonArab. It’s not an insult.
