One thing Ive never spoken about because it’s complicated, but I’ll try to clarify in this thread. Traditional gender roles are black and white in Islam-no grey. So, as a girl, I was always taught that I was the hunted, (therefore you have to protect yourself from the hunters) /1

They 80s were full of movies where girls get makeovers to impress the guy etc. I never understood that. I was raised that I had to do the opposite. They’re already impressed, it was my job to unimpress them by dressing modestly etc. /3

In the West, the pressure comes from the opposite direction, beauty companies make women constantly feel insecure so they purchase more products to make themselves more desirable. But both sides are shit. Pressure from either direction does terrible things to a girl /4

There’s an opposite reaction happening in the West now where they’re embracing modesty culture not understanding that it’s just the opposite extreme and it’s also dangerous and damaging to the female psyche. It’s not correcting course, it’s just veering into a different ditch. /5
