This, of course means that boys naturally get the opposite idea, that they’re the hunters. But this thread is about the messages girls get in the West vs the Muslim world. I always thought it was strange how Western movies/media makes girls out to be the ‘hunters’. /2

They 80s were full of movies where girls get makeovers to impress the guy etc. I never understood that. I was raised that I had to do the opposite. They’re already impressed, it was my job to unimpress them by dressing modestly etc. /3

In the West, the pressure comes from the opposite direction, beauty companies make women constantly feel insecure so they purchase more products to make themselves more desirable. But both sides are shit. Pressure from either direction does terrible things to a girl /4

There’s an opposite reaction happening in the West now where they’re embracing modesty culture not understanding that it’s just the opposite extreme and it’s also dangerous and damaging to the female psyche. It’s not correcting course, it’s just veering into a different ditch. /5

I'm interested in how feminist women regard the whole business of make-up. When I pass through huge make-up departments I wonder at the time & money which women devote to beautifying themselves in this way, which is such a contrast to men - generally speaking. Is sexism the root?
