The person who wrote that ultra-feminist blog post attacking the Prophet sws writes elsewhere about being abused for years, apparently by her father. I don’t say that excuses it but it’s another example of how Muslims’ evil behavior can push people away from Islam.

I know some people just follow their intellect out of religious beliefs (I did, I was raised a Christian). But I do think the sort of abuse you suffered (or victims of abuse by priests, etc) causes disillusionment. The source of the abuse is the evil character of the abuser.

Well, nice effort at assuming the intent of my actions, but you know what they say about assumptions... I left Islam after taking a History of Religions course in university. The historical evidence that Islam (and all religions) is bullshit is what made me an atheist. Thanks.

I believe the swine who abused you is a disgrace to humanity, to men, and to the religion he falsely claimed to be acting in the name of.

Well, I don’t. I believe he was a broken man, bullied from a young age, looking to belong and to find happiness. His quest led him to becoming more religious. Becoming more religious led him to becoming a Jihadi. His is a very common story.

As far are source of the abuse - I'd personally say many Muslims absolutely do not know their religion well. I have had the blessing to sit in the company and learn from many traditional scholars; none of them talked about treating women except with dignity and respect.

Ah, so you must not have read the word of Allah then. As he says to beat your wife if you fear disobedience or arrogance from her. I’m glad you know nice ppl, but that doesn’t absolve Islam of its role in sanctioning abuse.

I mean, yeah, this happens a lot. I left Christianity because of A) theological issues and B) I had a lot of mistreatment at the hands of Christians. I think it's important to talk about the different manifestations of spiritual abuse, and it doesn't just affect Muslims.

Good questions. I am not in a position to answer this - you need to get with someone who is specialized in this field and has either done serious research or collected statistics. If you come across something reliable, please share.
